Telepsychiatry is a promising alternative to in-person emergency services for people facing acute mental health crises. Distance counseling and treatment are also cost-effective, as telepsychiatry service is covered under the majority of private and public health insurance plans. The APA also cites improved access to specialist care and better coordinated continuity of care as benefits of telepsychiatry services.
